Message from the President

I am loving this Autumn season. I don't think we've had a nicer September, and yard work is still pleasant and enjoyable. Our September gathering at Hawrelak Park also had perfect weather and it was nice to see so many members coming out to have a fun evening. Thank you to Anita Nawrocki for bringing the hot drinks and goodies. I need to apologize right now to the members who attended as I completely forgot to introduce our Featured Artist - Joanne Milson. I feel terrible about this but Joanne has assured me that she will give her talk when we meet again in person at the church. Thank you Joanne!

The artwork that members brought gave us a beautiful show to enjoy. As well, members who had entered artwork for the Edmonton book were able to pick up their Judge sheets. All entries had 7 copies of their artwork made to enable each judge to have his/her own copy.. We felt that these copies should not be thrown away but rather, given back to the artists. So if you haven't received yours yet and are in the neighbourhood of my shop (15607 - 100A Ave NW), please stop in and pick yours up! They would make excellent cards if glued to some nice cardstock. Maybe call beforehand to make sure I am there! 780-489-1028

Due to the fourth wave of COVID, we are back to Zoom gatherings and October's program is going to be a fun demo/paint-along. See below for more details.

November's program is going to be a critique so pull your summer's artistic creative works together and watch for the notice. I would love to see all the artwork that was at our September gathering again at this critique!

Here's hoping that all of you are safe and healthy, and have a wonderful fall season!

SWCA Exhibitions

Misericordia Exhibition

The Misericordia show that is on display at the moment, was due to be taken down October 8. However, we have been asked to keep it up...until further notice. Marilyn, our contact with the Misericordia Hospital has stated that the hospital does not want any extra people in the hospital who do not have to be there. Members with pieces on display will be contacted by Jenna when things go back to normal and a new tear-down date is decided upon.

Book Committee

Special Spots in Alberta - Through the Eyes of Its Artists

Well, the September deadline has happily whizzed past and we have not enough entries yet. We are doing much better than the first deadline of the Edmonton Book though! We have set the next deadline for November 8 but... really, the deadline should be once we have received 200 entries. The first 200 entries will be accepted and if that happens before November 8, then the call for entries is finished. At present we have approximately 100 entries!!

Teresa Graham has put together an inspiration list.

Possible Chapter Titles are going to be:

  • Our Cityscapes
  • Rural Alberta
  • Our Mountains
  • Our Prairies
  • Our Parks
  • Our Lakes & Rivers
  • Our Tourist Attractions (Giant props, skiing, festivals, special events, hotels, RAM, etc.)

If you can think of more inspiration - send it in to swcabook@gmail.com
