Message from the President

Well, you are stuck with me for another year. I hope this pleases everyone but I don't want to take that for granted. So I want to make sure that you know that I am definitely open to hear of ways that I can improve, so please do not hesitate to contact me at 780-489-1028 with any suggestions or advice. This position has continued to be fun and enjoyable only because of the excellent volunteers and members of the group. I want to extend a HUGE thank you to the SWCA Executive and to all the volunteers who are chairing a committee. This Society would not be if it weren't for you and it is much appreciated.

We had a fantastic weekend at the Night of Artists, selling several books, painting  palette pin give-aways, handing out membership info postcards, all while listening to great live musicians and seeing some incredible art. Many of the artists were approached to see if they would be willing to give a demo at a future meeting and all of them said yes! Because of this, it's going to be a fun year to plan the programs, which brings me back to asking for help in a few areas. Please see below for more details.

We are meeting in-person again!!! Yes, the April meeting will be in-person. We will also try to make it available via Zoom but we hope to see your smiling eyes in person. Masks will still be encouraged and there will be hand sanitizer available. This is exciting and I hope to see many of you there. We have left-over palette pins to share with the membership so come and have fun painting one for yourself!

Eveline Garneau, SWCA President

PROGRAM: DEMONSTRATION with Erinn Evans - Encaustics

Erinn Evans is an encaustics artist based in Sherwood Park, Alberta. She minored in art at the University of Alberta while earning her Bachelor’s Degree in Education. Her own experiences with anxiety and depression have inspired her to create art that uplifts both herself and those who view it. Her artwork often features bold colours and patterns, as well as reflecting her love of nature and animals. Her love of animals has also led her to specialize in pet portraits. Painting with encaustics, which is pigmented melted wax, allows her to incorporate a variety of mediums such as oil pastels and decorative papers to create depth and texture.
